Y’know what, this has been a very weird year so far. There have been long stretches of time where paid work has ground to an absolute roadkill-screeching halt, and as a freelancer you pray to the god of crayons that your self-motivation will keep pushing you forward through these empty months (fortunately, it has, and I’ve been working harder than ever, until sometime last week where i gave up and ran out of steam. Here’s hoping it kicks back in). And yet, this year I have more projects than ever going on, an almost silly roster of books, tv projects, webcomics and assorted jubblies, all of which will hopefully be revealed over the coming months.
One of which that has been filed under secret since christmas has now been publicly announced, so i’m guessing it’s safe to say. I’m delighted to announce that Fish-Head Steve is being developed into a tv show. Fish-Head Steve, you may know, was the tale of a town who awoke to find everyone had novelty heads, and their adventures usually involved hitting, shouting and pushing instead of actually finding out the cause for their freakishness. Fish-Head Steve ran in The DFC comic, and over that time we amassed quite a lot of material (a hefty fistful of strips you can read RIGHT HERE).
NOW, like many comic artists, i’ve been through the tv development Banzuki course a couple of times, trying to make my characters into tv shows, and i can say it is hard, fist-to-face-punchingly HARD, to get a show to tv. As such, i’m aware that we’re still early days in this and there are no certs. It helps to be cautious grumpy jamie sometimes. That said, the talent they’ve brought in to work on this is pretty bloody wonderful, and the buzz around it so far is very positive. So what we can say is that Fish Head Steve is being developed for tv, and we’ll find out in autumn if it’s actually going to BE on tv. It’s just ridiculous enough a show, that it just might make it.

I supposed this means I can’t throw away the blue paper mache fish that has been sitting in my daughter’s room for over a year.
We made it for her to wear at her school’s carnival (the theme was comics). However, since we’re in France, people were a bit puzzled by it. If Fish Head Steve does make it to TV she’ll be wearing it to watch him!

Heh, my friend will have a field day. 2 years ago, we were messing around in Geography, and he drew a Stickman with a fish for a head. We called him Steve. Steve appeared in our drawings we played with, and about a month ago we typed in Fish Head Steve and this is what we found! We’re over the moon that such a coincidence was found. Hope it’s successful!
Congratulations! I am happy for you. Fish Head Steve has always made me laugh when I really needed some cheering up. I cannot wait to see this series actually get on T.V. I do hope you are successful Jamie!

I can’t wait until this is aired! I loved My Own Genie and Space Raoul, and I loved Fish Head Steve when I found it :D I am excited beyond excited that it is being made into a TV Show, what channel, what time and when is it being aired because I can’t wait!

I read Fish Head Steve when it was in DFC….So i’m not sure about TV show of it…But it might work…Can it pleaseeee not be on like a Sky channel cos’ i’d really like to watch it!!!!!
